About Sugarskull Comics' Current State of Affairs

Hi, guys. It’s a little embarrassing to show up after so long, but there’s a few things that need to be adressed. As you might already have noticed, we are currently undergoing yet another (agonizingly long) break. We don’t want to try and justify ourselves, but we feel like we need to explain our lack of activity:
  • Our main artist’s tablet stopped working: It sound like a lame excuse, and it probably is. We were able to fix this and it’s currently working now, so we might start over and retake the projects we had going. The hard thing about this is that our main artist is right now our only artist, so if anything comes up with them, Sugarskull is brought to a halt.
  • We’ve been having trouble with the software we use: Namely, Manga Studio EX 4.0. We are still reviewing this, as it is not completely fixed. It refuses to do several things that were vital for us and on top of it, it corrupted the files for TOP 10 Skeletons, so we are going to have to do those again.
  •  We temporarily ran out of ideas as to what to put in Andy^2. We figured it was a very global and general idea that we could keep making short gags for during a very long time… But truth be told, as of now, there’s not a lot of kids in our families, and our main artist doesn’t work at the museum anymore (where some of the dialogues and outrageous funny lines came from).
  • Our main artist wanted to focus on other things for a moment. It was rude, just leaving like that, but there are a lot of situations going on and we would appreciate if you show some support. Because that’s not only our main artist, but our only artist, it’s basically a one-man-show, and what goes on in their lives affects Sugarskull greatly. And, as of now, there are a lot of predicaments they need to handle.
Of course, we don’t want this to be just us giving excuses, so we’re going to tell you about the solutions we have in mind right now (feel free to suggest any of your own):
  • Finishing the TOP 10 Skeletons however we can. We loved the use of Manga Studio because it is easy to use and our artist trusted it a lot with bright flat colours… But if we are not able to fix it, they’re going to move to either Paint Tool Sai (which they absolutely despise) or Corel Painter (which is their main tool right now, but takes longer and is not great with flat colours), which would change the whole artstyle greatly.
  • Halting Andy^2 at least temporarily. We have no more ideas for it currently. We do have a few more strips, but that’s the problem: they’re just a few. After we post them, the Andy^2 strips are probably going to end at least for a short while.
  • Reworking the schelude. Once again, this is another problem with our artist: they cannot always post stuff on Mondays. Not only that, there are weeks in which they are busy everyday, and other days where the situations they are undergoing completely stops them from doing this. The solution they proposed was posting once or twice a week, but not on an exact day, as it is not possible, but the idea is for Sugarskull to post more often, even if it’s not on a definite day.
  • Finding more people to help out with Sugarskull Comics. From the start, what we wanted was to have a team that started with four or five people and could start growing and growing to have a lot more artists and writers that wanted to be part of us. We currently have a few people in mind, but we need to do a few arrangements before we can have them here for sure.
With this in mind, we’re pretty sure you’re going to have a lot of questions, so we’re going to do our best to answer some of the ones we find obvious. If you have any more questions, be sure to send them to us.
  • What’s going to happen to TOP 10s if the schedule changes? The way we did our TOP 10s with Goth Girls and Skeletons was this: we made a few numbers down before we started to post them and worked on the rest of it as the time went by. As a result, we ended up running out of pictures by a posting date and had to pressure our artist to do it, rushing the drawing and going down on quality (like it happened with TOP 10 Goth Girls); or we had unexpected and unwanted things happening (like it did with TOP 10 Skeletons). So what we’re going to do is we’re going to work on everything and only announce we have a new TOP 10 after we have all the pictures done. This way, you guys don’t get impatient and we don’t have to pressure our artist so much. AND we get to post the results everyday for ten straight days.
  • What will happen to Andy^2 then? It’s going to go away for a while. Sorry.
  • If Andy^2 will be no more, then what will be posted weekly? We have a few more ideas for other comics. Some we have already talked about, some are just sitting there and collecting dust. Some are strip comics, some are series. We’re going to take a few of those projects all at the same time and posting them once or twice a week, alternating randomly between the ones that are going to be uploaded. Having only Andy^2 pressured us to think of stuff that could apply to only one topic, but having diverse comics will help us keep the ideas fresh and flowing.
  • What is going to happen to Supernova, Ultimate Star Creators, and Noire? As of now, Ultimate Star Creators is not done, as it is being made with another tool that will take longer. When it is done or almost done, it will be posted to Sugarskull; we still don’t know if it’s going to be posted weekly, all together or a page a day. Supernova, however, is going to be one of the comic strips/pages that we throw in weekly, so you can expect that. Noire, on the other hand, is going to be an entirely different thing and it might not be part of Sugarskull Comics. Our artist really believes in this project and would like it published by an official agency of sorts, and we support that all the way and respect their decision of working on it on their own.
  • When is Sugarskull Comics coming back, then? Soon-ish. We hope. We can’t tell for sure yet, but we do intend to have it come back as soon as possible. It depends on a lot of things, but we will be sure to let you guys know.
Sorry for the inconveniences and sorry for the long text. We do intend to come back to it soon and we will tell you immediately should any update appear. For now, you can send us your questions and check out our artist cosmicstunky on Tumblr and show them some support! We would really appreciate it if you send them some kind words of motivation! Thanks!

The Sugarskull team.

January Updates

Happy New Years, everyone! We're very excited to recieve this amazing and promising 2016 here on Sugarskull! Now, promises become debts... And as promised, here are the updates for this month!

First of all, we are very very sorry, but because of some happenings that are out of our control, the hiatus will be extended until January 18th, 2016. We don't like the idea of postponing this again, but because we don't want to do a half-hearted job and have irregular upload schedules, we need to take this break until things are stable enough so we can continue without interruption or weird upcomes. BUT! Once we come back from our break, we will be 100% ready for action and with new ideas coming.

Another thing that you might be excited to hear is the fact that The Ultimate Star Creators is already being worked on! :) We already have the storyline remastered and in sketching process. We still don't know when it's gonna be up and ready but we might show you some of our progress in our social media. Stay tuned if you're interested.

We are working on a TOP 10 currently. As suggested by somebody on Tumblr, we are making it about Skeletons in animation or comics. We have been working on this for a while and doing some research (because apparently nobody in the team can remember a lot of skeletons), so we would appreciate it if you sent some suggestions of your favourite cartoon or comic skeletons and we'll take them in consideration!

About the Supernova! strips we mentioned on our December Updates, we are currently trying to figure out the way we're gonna make them, because we have different ideas on the thing. We will be working on it and showing you what we do, maybe asking for your opinions on different things. The oringinal style will remain for this one, but once we start working with Noire, things will be a little bit different. We will wait and see how things turn out with the original one before we actually say or do anything about Noire in Sugarskull.

We're also thinking of making a new type of strip (that we've had in mind of a while, but we haven't talked about it) called Skulls Made of Sugar. We don't really know how well that will work, so we want to make sure we have full grasp on our other projects before we go into a completely new one!

So, in conclusion... This is what you guys will be seeing this January:
  • An extension to our current hiatus (We will be back on January 18th, 2016)
  • Sneak peeks to the development of The Ultimate Star Creators.
  • Us, asking a bunch of things on social media, specially regarding our TOP 10 on skeletons and opinions on stuff we might do for Supernova!
  • Maybe a couple things about Skulls Made of Sugar, we're not sure yet!
Happy 2016, everyone! May this be a wonderful year for you all!

Apology

Hello, guys. As you were able to notice, this week's comic was (once again) delayed. The explanation for this is that we were out of town and thought we could make it back in time to post everything but couldn't.

We don't want to delay ourselves as much as we have been, but we aparently will have to. Right now, we are considering taking a quick hiatus, starting today (December 22nd, 2015) and ending during the first week of January (Which means we probably would come back on January 4th, 2016). This is because, during this time of the year, we get busy with our family and friends, and also have some other important appointments that might interfere. The last thing we wanna do is make Sugarskull into a half-hearted job, so we will take a quick rest and come back full of energy to start the year at 100%.

Thank you for understanding,
the Sugarskull team.

P.S.
We will try to keep the upload schedule the same (Mondays), but in case anything changes that, we'll make sure to let you guys know.

December Updates

Hello, everyone! We're progressing slowly, but the important thing is we haven't stopped moving forward. One of the intentions of Sugarskull Comics is to give you guys updates at least every month to let you know about changes we might be doing and what's coming next.

Everyone that follows Cookie in DeviantART will know about some of the projects that we're currently taking care of, which is Noire, the Supernova! spin-off. Most of you will not have any idea of what the original is about... So one of the ideas is that we will be posting here the Supernova! strips so you know who the characters are when the time comes.

Another project is the possible creation of another comic strip. We currently have a lot of different ideas, but we haven't had any as good yet. Also, we might be starting to remake The Ultimate Star Creators and/or Apfel Story. We know we've been saying this for a long time, but we want to make sure the story is on point before we begin sketching and it seems that we're now ready!

So, in conclusion, this is what we will be seeing in December and January:
  •  More Andy^2 strips every Monday!
  • Supernova! strips (schedule day pending)
  • A remake of either Apfel Story or The Ultimate Star Creators
We have also plans of letting you see some cool artwork and extras, but the date is not yet established! Until then, please stay tuned to the page or any of our social networks, which you can find here.
Bye-bye!

Top 10s

As another part of the project, Sugarskull Comics is also developing an Art Project called the Top 10. Basically like every other Top 10 ever, but slightly different.

Every certain period of time, we will either choose or ask fans for a theme and develop our Top 10 around it. This theme will include characters in either cartoons or comics (if the time calls for it, maybe literature and series). For example, let's say you guys pick superheroes as your theme. That means that we're gonna have to come up with our ten favourite superheroes and place them in order. Then, we will make fanart and publish it little by little so you guys can see the progress and have the time for checking them out.

Because of the dates when Sugarskull decided to sail, and also because of the general tinge that the project itself has, we decided that the first theme will be Goth Girls. So please stay tuned! We're gonna publish our first Goth Girl on the top in a couple of minutes now, and continue to do it through the next days!

Side note:
Top 10s will be included in the Extras category, so they will most likely be included in DeviantART as well!

The Countdown Begins

Ladies and gentlemen! It's almost time for the Sugarskull Comics project to officially sail! We're absolutely excited, as there's only 10 days left until our great start!

We will, as scheduled, begin with the Andy^2 strips which we talked about before in Cookie's DeviantArt profile, and will proceed with some more as time goes by. So far we don't have an official upload day (which means that we're not exactly sure how often we're going to be uploading), but we're going to do our best to upload every monday.

Thanks again to everyone who has been supporting and cheering us, and for all the kind words we've recieved. We will do our best not to let you down, and will try to improve our comics each day.

We hope to see you on November the 2nd, when the first comic is out!

To everyone and anyone reading this and following us so far,
fair winds and following seas!

Update on the Contact Us! Page

Greetings!

We've updated our Contact Us! page today :D We probably should have done this sooner, but right now we're trying to focus on the content we're going to publish. Anyway! The reason for the update was the creation of a DeviantART group that you guys can join and follow so you stay updated on everything!

We will not be posting the comics on our DeviantART group, but all of our extras and downloadable content will be found there before anywhere else, so be sure to check it out! Also, if you want to submit anything to us, you might want to keep in mind that we will check the group first :)

Wellp! That's all for now guys! See you on November the 2nd! Bye bye!

Coming soon!

Hey, guys!

Sugarskull Comics is right about to sail! We know there's some of you who have been waiting for this since we first said the idea out loud, and we're very very happy to know there's so much support and enthusiasm... So many people cheering for us to make this project begin!

I know it's been quite the long walk since the first announcement, but it won't be such a long wait! We're preparing a lot of things and even have made some re-designs to the page (as you may have noticed by the navigation bar), because we noticed some faults that we hadn't seen before. It was all a problem that came from the template we had decided to use, and even when we liked the old navigation bar better, some things definitely had to be changed and could not be so with that template.

Anyways! Just letting you guys know we're doing our best! Thanks for cheering us and supporting the project! We'll be posting our first comics on November the 2nd! Wait for them! :D
